Summary:A vertical conduit (23) extends from the bottom of a ladle (20) containing molten metal and terminates at a lower end above a tundish (31) for receiving the molten metal. A vertical shroud (27) encloses the vertical conduit (23) from a location above the conduit's lower end (24), and the shroud extends into the tundish (3). A nozzle (47) extends into the interior of the shroud (27) for feeding alloying ingredient, as shot, into a stream of the molten metal, within the shroud (27). Structure is provided for circulating a cooling fluid through the nozzle (47). The nozzle is connected to flexible feed lines (51) for transporting shot and cooling fluid to the nozzle. Additional structure is provided for preventing the flexible feed lines (51) from bending, twisting, kinking or the like when the nozzle (47), shroud (27) and vertical conduit (23) are rotated about a vertical axis (30) spaced from the center line (52) of the vertical conduit (23).
