Summary:A process for cold working metallic work materials, wherein, to a metallic work material to be worked or on to the working surfaces of a tool to be used for working, there is applied a lubricant comprising an organic solvent with a boiling point at atmospheric pressure equal to or less than 200 DEG C. containing at least one compound which is the alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, ammonium, zinc or related metal or non-metal salts of organic acids containing more than 10 carbon atoms in the molecule. The above lubricant may optionally containing at least one tenside i.e. a surface active compound. The solvent is preferably benzene.
