Summary: | A combustible gas detecting element includes a detecting element (RD) coated with oxide catalyst layer (4) and a compensating element (RC) of metal oxide on the surface of metal oxide support (3), adhering to platinum wire (2). The oxide catalyst layer (4) is composed of platinum, palladium and tin oxide which is an n-type semiconductor. The total amount of platinum and palladium is 10-25 % of total catalyst layer, each being in the range of 8-16 wt.%. The compensating element is prepared by coating a metal oxide support with ferrous oxide and silica, where the mole ratio of ferrous oxide to silica is 1:0.2 to 1:0.5.
