Summary:A clutch plate assembly has two friction segments (18,20) which are made of a ceramic-metal compound (20) and organic material (18). When the friction segments are disengaged, they form an axial step with the adjacent ceramic friction segments on the clutch plate. The friction segment thickness differece compensates for the initially accelerated wear of the ceramic segments during the running-in period, thus a constant friction coefficient is obtained during this time.
