CERAMIC FILTER AND METHOD FOR USING SAME

Ceramic filter for filtering molten cast iron is made from a hgih m.pt. ceramic material with an open-celled foam structure and variable bulk density in different parts of the filter. Ratio of filter surface to filter vol. is 0.0003-9 m2/Cm3 and specific filter resistance is 0.1-0.9 bar-Cm at a flui...

Summary:Ceramic filter for filtering molten cast iron is made from a hgih m.pt. ceramic material with an open-celled foam structure and variable bulk density in different parts of the filter. Ratio of filter surface to filter vol. is 0.0003-9 m2/Cm3 and specific filter resistance is 0.1-0.9 bar-Cm at a fluid flow rate of 5m3/h. Pressure loss across the filter is proportional to specific resistance x, where x is filter length/afflux plane area. The ceramic comprises(wt.%) 20-70 Si carbide, 10-40 Al oxide, 2-20 Si oxide, 10- 30 refractory inorganic binder.
