CONTINOUS PROCESS OF SMELTING METALLIC LEAD DIRECTLY FROM LEAD & SULFUR CONTAINING METERIALS

A material contg. Pb and S is fed into a melting-down zone at one end of a long, horizontal reactor contg. a molten Pb phase below a molten slag phase. The phases are formed by a specific oxidn. potential in the melting-down zone which produces Pb contg. 0.05 - 2% S and prim. Pb rich in Bi. The prim...

Summary:A material contg. The prim. Pb is removed from the melting-down zone. S in the remaining part of the reactor is a reducing zone in which reducing agents are added to the slag, so a slag with a low Pb content is obtd. together with sec. Pb with a low Bi content. When the raw material contains more than 55% Pb, the prim. Pb in the melting-down zone pref. contains 0.1 - 0.4% S.
