Summary:The compds. I [R' = H, CH3; R = C1-10 linear or branched alkyl, C3-10 cycloalkyl, C2-6 alkenyl, C1-6CF3-substituted alkyl, phenyl, halophenyl, phenyl-C1-3 alkyl; X,Y,Z can be double bonds are prepd. for use as antihypercholesterolemic compds. Heating compd. II with alkali metal hydroxide, followed by acidification, lactonification and reaction with t-butyl dimethyl chlorosilane gives 4-t-butyl silyloxy compds. After acylation of these intermediates, elimination of the silyl group gives compds. I and corresponding dehydroxyacids.
