Summary:New free-acid dyes of formula (I) were prepd. by diazotizing a compd. of formula (III), an amino compd. of formula (IV'), and 2,4,6- trichloro-S-triazine; then reacting the prod. with phenylenediamine of formula (V) (the reaction of (III) and diazotized (V) is excluded) . When Y' in (IV') is -CH2CH2OH, it reacts with a polybasic acid so that (I) is obtd., where Y is -CH2CH2OY2. Y is converted to -CH=CH2 in (I) by removing the polybasic acid. X is H, methyl, methoxy, or sulfonic acid. Y is -CH=CH2, -CH2CH2Y1, or -CH2CH2OY2. Y1 is halogen. Y2 is polybasic acid residual. R is C1-4 alkyl. R1 and R2 are H, methyl or ethyl. Y' is -CH2CH2OH, -CH=CH2, -CH2CH2Y1, or - CH2CH2OY2.
