Summary:The present invention relates to a vehicle control apparatus based on a seat occupancy status of an autonomous vehicle and an operation method thereof. The autonomous vehicle control apparatus based on a seat riding position according to one embodiment may comprise: a sensing unit which senses whether a driver's seat, a passenger's seat, and a rear seat are occupied; and a control unit, if a driver is not in the driver's seat and it is sensed that the driver is in the rear seat, which controls to provide a user interface capable of controlling the vehicle to the driver using at least one of a display and a speaker installed in the vehicle, based on a position of the driver's seat. An objective of the present invention is to provide the apparatus which efficiently provides a vehicle interface to the driver based on the seat occupancy status of the autonomous vehicle, and the operation method thereof. 일 실시예에 따른 좌석 탑승 위치에 기초한 자율 주행 차량 제어 장치는, 운전석, 조수석 및 뒷좌석의 탑승 여부를 감지하는 감지부 및 상기 운전석에 운전자가 탑승하지 않고, 상기 뒷좌석에 운전자가 탑승한 것으로 감지된 경우, 차량을 제어할 수 있는 사용자 인터페이스를 상기 운전자가 탑승한 좌석의 위치에 기초하여 상기 차량에 설치된 디스플레이 및 스피커 중 적어도 하나를 이용하여 상기 운전자에게 제공하도록 제어하는 제어부를 포함할 수 있다.
