According to various embodiments, an electronic device comprises a display and a processor, wherein the processor may be configured to: control the display so that a first screen is displayed in a first area of the display during a first state in which a second area from among the first area and the second area of the display is not exposed to the outside of the electronic device; detect an event in a state in which the first screen is displayed in the first area; control the display so that a first object corresponding to the event is displayed in at least a partial area of the first area based on the detection of the event, the first object being displayed in at least a part of the first screen; confirm the input of a first gesture of a user into the area in which the first object is displayed, while the area ratio of the size of the first object, with respect to the size of the first area, is greater than or equal to a designated ratio; and control the electronic device so that the state of the display is changed from the first state to a second state in which the first area and the second area of the display are exposed to the outside of the electronic device.
