According to one embodiment of the present invention, a storage device connected to a host computer in a USB manner comprises: a storage space configuration management unit that divides a virtual storage space ("virtual space") of a preset size into virtual space blocks of a predetermined size and manages the same by assigning a virtual space block ID to each virtual space block; a communication unit for dividing a remote storage space ("remote space") of the same size as the virtual space into remote space blocks of the same size as the virtual space blocks, and capable of performing communication via a network with a remote storage managed by assigning a remote space block ID to each remote space block; and a memory that stores virtual space block-remote space block mapping data mapping the virtual space block ID and the remote space block ID.
