An apparatus for detecting a shape abnormality of a tool comprises: a shape abnormality calculation unit which calculates a shape abnormality of a tool; a camera which films an actual shape of the tool; a shape difference acquiring unit which acquires a shape difference between the shape abnormality of the tool calculated from the shape abnormality calculation unit and the actual shape of the tool filmed by the camera from a plurality of spots on the tool; a moving average value acquiring unit which acquires a moving average value of the plurality of shape differences acquired from the shape difference acquiring unit from the plurality of spots of the tool; a moving average value variation acquiring unit which acquires a variation of a plurality of moving average values acquired from the moving average value acquiring unit from the plurality of spots of the tool; and a foreign substance attachment determining unit which determines whether foreign substances are attached on the tool according to the variation acquired from the moving average value variation acquiring unit.
