A water purifier according to the present invention is configured to: check coolant temperature information about the temperature of a coolant contained in a water tank which is detected by a temperature detection unit; perform, on the basis of the checked coolant temperature information, a first mode in which a compressor and an agitator simultaneously operate such that the temperature of the coolant can be cooled equal to or less than a preset ice-making temperature; perform a second mode in which the agitator is stopped and the operation of the compressor is maintained for a preset ice-making time such that ice can be generated around an evaporator in the water tank when the coolant is cooled equal to or less than the preset ice-making temperature; and, when a preset ice-making time has elapsed from the time when the operation of the agitator is stopped, perform a third mode in which the agitator re-operates such that the agitator and the compressor operate simultaneously so as to maintain the ice around the evaporator in a frozen state. The present invention can enhance user satisfaction. 본 발명의 정수기는 온도 검출부에 의해 검출된 워터 탱크 내에 수용된 냉각재의 온도에 대한 냉각재 온도 정보를 확인하고, 확인된 냉각재 온도 정보에 기초하여 냉각재의 온도가 미리 설정된 제빙 온도 이하로 냉각되도록 압축기와 교반기의 동시에 동작하는 제1모드를 수행하고, 냉각재가 미리 설정된 제빙 온도 이하로 냉각되면 워터 탱크 내의 증발기의 주변에 얼음이 생성되도록 미리 설정된 제빙 시간 동안 교반기를 정지시키고 압축기의 동작을 유지시키는 제2모드를 수행하고, 교반기의 동작 정지 시점부터 미리 설정된 제빙 시간이 경과하면 증발기 주변의 얼음이 결빙 상태로 유지되도록 교반기를 재 동작시켜 교반기가 압축기와 동시에 동작하는 제3모드를 수행한다.
