The present invention discloses a battery module with enhanced safety against thermal runaway, fire, explosion, etc. In order to achieve the above object, the battery module according to the present invention includes: a plurality of cylindrical battery cells each of which is provided with an electrode terminal and which is elongated in a vertical direction; an upper cover which extends in a horizontal direction so as to cover an upper portion of the plurality of cylindrical battery cells and is formed with a plurality of exposure openings so that at least a part of the upper portion of each of the plurality of cylindrical battery cells are exposed to an outside; a lower cover which extends in the horizontal direction so as to cover a lower portion of the plurality of cylindrical battery cells and is formed with a plurality of exposure openings so that at least a part of the lower portion of each of the plurality of cylindrical battery cells is exposed to the outside; and a filling member which has electrical insulation and is filled in a plurality of exposure openings so as to close the plurality of exposure openings formed in at least one of the upper cover and the lower cover. 본 발명은, 열폭주, 화재, 폭발 등에 대한 안전성을 높인 배터리 모듈을 개시한다. 상기와 같은 목적을 달성하기 위한 본 발명에 따른 배터리 모듈은, 각각이 전극 단자가 구비되고 상하 방향으로 길게 세워진 형태의 복수의 원통형 전지셀; 상기 복수의 원통형 전지셀의 상부를 커버하도록 수평 방향으로 연장된 형태를 가지고 상기 복수의 원통형 전지셀의 각각의 상부의 적어도 일부분이 외부로 노출되도록 복수의 노출구가 형성된 상부 커버; 상기 복수의 원통형 전지셀의 하부를 커버하도록 수평 방향으로 연장된 형태를 가지고 상기 복수의 원통형 전지셀의 각각의 하부의 적어도 일부분이 외부로 노출되도록 복수의 노출구가 형성된 하부 커버; 및 전기 절연성을 가지고, 상기 상부 커버 및 상기 하부 커버 중, 적어도 어느 하나에 형성된 복수의 노출구를 밀폐하도록 상기 복수의 노출구에 충진된 충진부재를 포함한다.
