The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for displaying gearshift information of a rotary type electronic transmission, capable of displaying a selected gearshift step through an indicator when the gearshift step is selected, while displaying shiftable steps through an illumination, and turning on a mood lamp with colored light set to be matched with the gearshift step, thereby optimizing a driving environment of a driver. In accordance with the present invention, when a vehicle is on, a control state of a rotary type gearshift selection switch is checked to display a selected gearshift step through an indicator, display shiftable steps through an illumination, and turn on a mood lamp in a color set to be matched with the selected gearshift step. When the selected step is "D", and a manual button is selected, a manual mode selection area is displayed through the illumination, and, when a specific manual mode is selected, the selected manual mode is displayed through the indicator, and a non-selected manual mode is displayed through the illumination, and, accordingly, the visibility of the selected gearshift information can be increased and the driving environment can be improved at the same time. 변속 단이 선택되면 선택된 변속 단은 인디케이터(Indicator)로 표시하고 동시에 변속할 수 있는 단은 일루미네이션(Illumination)으로 표시해주며, 무드 조명(Mood Lamp)을 변속 단에 대응하게 설정된 컬러 조명으로 점등시켜 운전자의 운전 환경을 최적화해줄 수 있도록 한 로터리 타입 전자식 변속기의 변속정보 표시장치 및 방법에 관한 것으로서, 차량 시동이 온된 상태에서, 로터리 타입의 변속선택스위치의 조작 상태를 확인하여 선택된 변속 단은 인디케이터로 표시하고, 변속 가능한 단은 일루미네이션으로 표시하며, 선택된 변속 단에 대응하게 설정된 컬러로 무드 조명을 점등하며, 선택된 선택 단이 "D"단이고, 매뉴얼 버튼이 선택되면, 매뉴얼 모드 선택영역을 일루미네이션으로 표시해주고, 특정의 매뉴얼 모드가 선택되면, 선택된 매뉴얼 모드는 인디케이터로 표시하고 비선택된 매뉴얼 모드는 일루미네이션으로 표시해주어, 선택된 변속정보의 시인성을 높임과 동시에 운전 환경의 향상을 도모한다.
