The present invention relates to a method for preparing ester which can prevent a decrease in reaction rate of reactants while minimizing energy consumption to provide improved productivity. Particularly, the method includes the steps of: (S10) supplying an organic acid and alcohol to a reactor to carry out esterification; (S20) condensing a top discharge stream including the alcohol and water from the reactor and supplying the same to an interlayer separation unit; and (S30) refluxing the top discharge stream including alcohol from the interlayer separation unit to the reactor and discharging the bottom discharge stream including water, wherein the refluxing of the top discharge stream including alcohol to the reactor is carried out with a refluxing ratio decreased continuously from 1 to 0, from the time point corresponding to an esterification conversion of 80-95%, and the refluxing ratio is a ratio of the amount of the top discharge stream including alcohol, discharged from the interlayer separation unit, to the amount of the stream including alcohol supplied to the interlayer separation unit. 본 발명은 에스터의 제조방법에 관한 것으로, 보다 상세하게는 유기산 및 알코올을 반응기에 공급하여 에스터화 반응시키는 단계(S10); 상기 반응기로부터 알코올 및 물을 포함하는 상부 배출 스트림은 응축하여 층 분리기로 공급하는 단계 (S20); 및 상기 층 분리기로부터 알코올을 포함하는 상부 배출 스트림을 상기 반응기로 환류시키고, 물을 포함하는 하부 배출 스트림을 배출시키는 단계(S30)를 포함하되, 상기 알코올을 포함하는 상부 배출 스트림의 상기 반응기로의 환류는, 상기 에스터화 반응 전환율이 80 내지 95%인 시점부터 환류비를 1에서부터 0까지 지속적으로 감소시키며, 상기 환류비는 층 분리기로 공급되는 알코올을 포함하는 스트림의 공급량에 대한, 층 분리기로부터 배출되는 알코올을 포함하는 상부 배출 스트림의 배출량의 비율인 것인 에스터의 제조방법을 제공한다.
