Summary: | The present disclosure relates to a communication technique for converging a 5G communication system to support a higher data transfer rate than a 4G system with IoT technology, and a system thereof. The present disclosure can be applied to intelligent services (for example, smart home, smart building, smart city, smart car or connected car, healthcare, digital education, retail business, security- and safety-related services, etc.) based on 5G communication technology and IoT-related technology. The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for transmitting an uplink control channel in a wireless cellular communication system. A method performed by a terminal in a communication system comprises the steps of: receiving a radio resource control (RRC) message including information on the number of slots and information on the number of symbols for physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) transmission, from a base station; receiving information indicating a PUCCH resource from the base station; and performing the PUCCH transmission over a number of slots corresponding to the information on the number of slots, based on the PUCCH resource.
