The present disclosure relates to a method and apparatus for determining proximity of an external electronic device in an electronic device. The method for determining proximity of an external electronic device in an electronic device includes the steps of: measuring signal intensity of a wireless communication signal received from the external electronic device when the electronic device is in a first position; measuring signal intensity of a wireless communication signal received from the external electronic device when the electronic device is in a second position different from the first position; and determining whether the external electronic device is close to the electronic device, based on a difference between the signal intensity measured in the first position and the signal intensity measured in the second position. 본 개시는 전자 장치에서 외부 전자 장치의 근접성을 결정하는 방법 및 장치에 관한 것이다. 전자 장치에서 외부 전자 장치의 근접성을 결정하는 방법은, 상기 전자 장치가 제1 위치에 있을 때 상기 외부 전자 장치로부터 수신되는 무선 통신 신호의 신호 강도를 측정하는 단계; 상기 전자 장치가 상기 제1 위치와 다른 제2 위치에 있을 때 상기 외부 전자 장치로부터 수신되는 무선 통신 신호의 신호 강도를 측정하는 단계; 및 상기 제1 위치에서 측정된 신호 강도와 상기 제2 위치에서 측정된 신호 강도의 차이에 기초하여, 상기 외부 전자 장치의 근접 여부를 결정하는 단계; 를 포함한다.
