Summary:The present invention relates to a microneedle structure for an intradermal injection or diagnostic use, which is configured as a protrusion on a substrate, wherein the shape is symmetric with respect to a plane of vertical symmetry and defined by a pair of vertical sides configured to meet along a vertical leading edge and by an inclined plane intersecting the sides. The microneedle also comprises a vertical bore positioned centrally between the two sides and substantially near the leading edge. Each of the sides is sequentially divided along forward and backward directions into at least two adjacent planar segments, forming a pair of corresponding segments along each side. Each corresponding pair of segments forms an acute angle with each other, and the angle is between 40 to 70 degrees for the pair of segments adjacent to the leading edge and less than 35 degrees for the pair of segments furthest from the leading edge. The leading edge is formed such that a profile thereof comprises an arc joined to the side.
