Summary:A system has an external catheter, and an internal suction thrombus collection catheter with flow restriction, improved suction efficiency, and an expandable distal tip for a large inlet into which a thrombus or another obstruction material can be collected. The thrombus collection catheter may have a support tube proximal to the tip. The expandable tip may be a strut framework, wherein a flexible low modulus cover is disposed around a proximal support tube and at least a portion of the tip strut framework. A distal end of the tip may be encapsulated by a low friction elastomeric lip for atraumatic contact with a wall of a blood vessel. The tip has a folded delivery configuration and radially expands in a deployed configuration.
