Summary: | The present invention provides a cathode active material for a lithium secondary battery, a manufacturing method thereof, and a lithium secondary battery including the same, wherein the cathode active material includes: a lithium metal compound and a phosphorus (P)-containing compound positioned on a surface of the lithium metal compound, wherein the phosphorus (P) content in the phosphorus-containing compound is 0.1 to 10 atomic % with respect to the total atomic weight of the element present on a surface of the cathode electrode active material. Therefore, the present invention exhibits a high capacity and has excellent lifespan characteristics, as well as a small amount of gas generated and thus excellent stability.
