The present invention discloses an image processing device, a control method thereof, and a recording medium in which a computer program is recorded. That is, the device of the present invention provides a representative image which can accurately express the characteristics of a video based on the duration, the sharpness of the screen, the distribution of objects, etc., of a similar scene included in video data, so that a user can easily recognize characteristics of the video by the representative image, and search similar video data through the representative image, so as to improve user convenience. 본 발명은 영상 처리 장치, 이의 제어 방법 및 컴퓨터 프로그램이 기록된 기록 매체를 개시한다. 즉, 본 발명은 동영상 데이터에 포함된 유사 장면의 지속 시간, 화면의 선명도, 객체의 분포 등에 기초하여 동영상의 특징을 정확하게 표현할 수 있는 대표 이미지를 제공함으로써, 사용자가 대표 이미지에 의하여 동영상의 특징을 쉽게 인식할 수 있고, 대표 이미지를 통하여 유사한 동영상 데이터를 검색할 수 있어 사용자 편의성을 향상시킬 수 있다.
