Abstract The present invention is to provide an apparatus and method for inspecting a surface material of a steel sheet that can accurately and quickly inspect the material of a steel sheet through an eddy current. According to an embodiment of the present invention, provided is a steel sheet surface material inspection apparatus for generating an eddy current in a steel sheet to determine the surface material of the steel sheet. The steel sheet surface material inspection apparatus comprises: an eddy current checker which faces the steel sheet; and a frame to which the eddy current checker is fixed.
