Provided is a tool height adjustment device which is used for a pick-up tool where a flexible member subject to little change in contact-induced pressure is adopted for a chip retaining part, and which is capable of precisely performing a height position adjustment for the chip retaining part. More specifically, the present invention provides a tool height adjustment device which is provided with: a transparent plate; an imaging means for acquiring an image by putting a focus on a top surface of the transparent plate from the underside of the transparent plate; and a control means having the function of controlling vertical drive of the pick-up tool, the function of controlling the motion of the imaging means, and the function of analyzing the image acquired by the imaging means, wherein the control means analyzes the image acquired by the imaging means while bringing the chip retaining part closer toward the transparent plate so as to detect a height position at which the top surface of the transparent plate is held effectively by the chip retaining part.
