The present invention relates to an intermittent printing apparatus in which a slip does not occur and deviation in print alignment does not occur when a substrate to be printed is driven. According to the present invention, a paper-receiving side step-back roller (6) and a paper-discharge side step-back roller (10) are synchronized to be driven so as to be forward-rotated such that a substrate to be printed (W) is driven in a forward direction to print an image on the substrate to be printed (W) by a compression ball (9) and a blanket ball (8), and the paper-receiving side step-back roller (6) and the paper-discharge side step-back roller (10) are synchronized to be driven so as to be backward-rotated such that the substrate to be printed (W) is driven in a backward direction. Also, the substrate to be printed (W) is wound around a circumferential surface of the compression ball (9) at a predetermined winding angle, and is pressed against the circumferential surface of the compression ball (9) by a nip roller (42) for a compression ball, and the compression ball (9) is synchronized with the paper-receiving side step-back roller (6) and the paper-discharge side step-back roller (10) to be driven so as to be forward- and backward-driven. 피인쇄기재를 주행할 때에 슬립이 발생하는 일이 없고, 인쇄맞춤의 편차가 발생하지 않는 간헐인쇄기로 한다. 입지측 스텝백롤러(6)와 배지측 스텝백롤러(10)를 동기하여 정회전구동함으로써 피인쇄기재(W)를 정방향으로 주행하여 압동(9)과 블랭킷동(8)으로 피인쇄기재(W)에 화상을 인쇄하고, 입지측 스텝백롤러(6)와 배지측 스텝백롤러(10)를 동기하여 역회전구동함으로써 피인쇄기재(W)를 역방향으로 주행한다. 피인쇄기재(W)를 상기 압동(9)의 둘레면에 소정의 권취각으로 감고, 그 피인쇄기재(W)를 압동용 닙롤러(42)로 상기 압동(9)의 둘레면에 강압함과 아울러 상기 압동(9)을 입지측 스텝백롤러(6) 및 배지측 스텝백롤러(10)와 동기하여 정회전구동, 역회전구동한다.
