The present invention relates to a method for allocating IP addresses in a wireless communication network and an apparatus thereof and, particularly, to a method for allocating IP addresses to terminals in a wireless communication network where terminals perform wireless communications therewith without an access point (AP) and an apparatus thereof. A method for allocating IP addresses to wireless terminals capable of performing peer to peer (P2P) communications comprises: a discovery step of the wireless terminal searching for an external terminal and being connected to at least one searched external terminal; and a negotiation step of the wireless terminal negotiating with the external terminal to determine who will perform a group owner playing a role of the AP and a group client playing a role of a station in a P2P group, wherein any one between the discovery step and the negotiation step includes a step of the wireless terminal transmitting the IP address, to be allocated to the group client, to the external terminal. 본 발명은 무선 통신 네트워크에서 IP 주소 할당 방법 및 장치에 관한 것으로 특히 AP(Access Point) 없이 단말들 간에 직접 무선 통신하는 무선 통신 네트워크에서 단말들 간에 IP 주소를 할당하는 방법 및 장치에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 IP 주소 할당 방법은 피투피(peer to peer) 통신이 가능한 무선 단말의 IP 주소 할당 방법에 있어서, 상기 무선 단말이 외부 단말을 탐색하고 상기 탐색된 적어도 하나의 외부 단말과 연결하는 디스커버리(Discovery) 단계; 및 상기 무선 단말이, 피투피 그룹에서 액세스 포인트의 역할을 하는 그룹 오너와 스테이션의 역할을 하는 그룹 클라이언트를 누가 할 것인지를 상기 외부 단말과 협의하여 결정하는 협의(Negotiation) 단계를 포함하고, 상기 디스커버리 단계 및 상기 협의 단계 중 어느 하나는, 상기 무선 단말이, 상기 그룹 클라이언트에 할당할 IP 주소를 상기 외부 단말에 전송하는 단계를 포함하는 것임을 특징으로 한다.
