An electronic circuit includes a block discriminator, a candidate selector, and a motion vector generator in order to perform motion estimation between images. The block discriminator discriminates current and candidate blocks in relation to each decimated image generated from an original image and discriminates a first number of first candidate blocks based on the position of the current block and without a complete all-pixel search in relation to a first decimated image of the lowest resolution. The candidate selector selects second candidate blocks as some of the first candidate blocks in relation to a second decimated image of the highest resolution such that the block discriminator discriminates a second number of second candidate blocks, the second number being less than the first number, in relation to the original image.
