Summary: | A primary coil former for an ignition coil, which can wind a primary coil in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions, includes: a winding carrier surface (1) configured for being wound by a primary coil; two primary winding stops (3, 4) for limiting both ends of the winding carrier surface (1) in an axial direction; two holders (5, 6) arranged next to one another at the first end of the winding carrier surface (1) to hold ends (7, 8) of a winding wire, respectively; two deflection domes (14, 15) provided at the second end of the winding carrier surface (1), wherein one of the domes is configured to guide the winding wire back to the winding carrier surface (1) for a clockwise winding and the other dome is configured to guide the winding wire back to the winding carrier surface (1) for a counterclockwise winding; and a groove (13) on the winding carrier surface (1), which is formed to receive the winding wire and extends from one end of the winding carrier surface (1) to a gap between the two deflection domes (14, 15) at the other end of the winding carrier surface (1).
