Provided is a gear assembly for simplifying the integration of a differential assembly into a hollow rotor of an electric motor. The gear assembly utilizes a hollow cross member comprising a central portion and a plurality of hollow extension members to which gears are mounted. There is a pin in each of the hollow extension members. When the pins are pulled out, the assembly fits unobstructed in the hollow rotor. When the pins extend out of the corresponding extension members, the ends of the pins fit into apertures in the rotor.
