Disclosed are a cleaner and a control method thereof. The cleaner according to the embodiment of the present invention includes: a main body having a suction motor for generating suction force; a driving unit for moving the main body; a suction unit which is connected to a handle through an extension pipe and sucks external dust; a hose coupling unit which is provided on the main body and is connected to the handle on one side to allow a flexible hose for supplying the suction force to the suction unit to be coupled thereto; and a control unit which executes an automatic following function that controls the driving unit so that the main body can follow the position of the handle while the suction motor is being driven.
