The present invention relates to a waveform generator configured to generate a signal with characteristics according to a command of a user. The waveform generator comprises: an optical signal generation circuit; a control circuit; a waveform shaping circuit; and an output circuit. The optical signal generation circuit generates a first optical signal including pulses. The control circuit generates a control signal indicating a first pulse determined to be attenuated in magnitude among the pulses. The waveform shaping circuit attenuates the magnitude of the first pulse based on the control signal and the first optical signal and generates a second optical signal including the first pulse with attenuated magnitude and pulses corresponding to the pulses included in the first optical signal. The output circuit outputs an electrical signal of bands corresponding to differences between the frequencies of the pulses included in the second optical signal based on the second optical signal.
