Disclosed are an air purifier with enhanced deodorization and antibacterial functions and a method thereof. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the air purifier comprises: a sensor unit configured to sense an odor; a deodorization unit configured to spray phytoncide to deodorize the odor when the odor is sensed by the sensor unit; and a control unit configured to set a spray amount of the phytoncide based on a level of the sensed odor and to control the deodorization unit for the predetermined spray amount of phytoncide to be sprayed. 탈취 및 항균 기능이 강화된 공기 청정기 및 그 방법이 개시된다. 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 공기 청정기는 악취를 감지하는 센서부; 상기 센서부에 의해 악취가 감지되는 경우 피톤치드를 분사하여 상기 악취를 탈취하는 탈취부; 및 상기 감지된 악취의 레벨에 기초하여 상기 피톤치드의 분사량을 설정하고, 상기 설정된 분사량의 피톤치드가 분사되도록 상기 탈취부를 제어하는 제어부를 포함한다.
