Provided is a substrate processing apparatus capable of reducing costs while continuously maintaining tension applied to a processing tape without requiring additional processing between target processing. The substrate processing apparatus causes a processing tape to abut a processing object and processes the processing object by the relative movement of the processing tape and the processing object. The apparatus comprises: a tape supply reel; a tape recovery reel; a recovery motor configured to apply torque to the tape recovery reel; a tape feed motor configured to feed the processing tape; and a control unit configured to control the tape feed motor, wherein the control unit controls the torque of the recovery motor depending on a change in the outer diameter of a roll of the processing tape wound by the tape recovery reel such that tension applied to the processing tape can be constant, using the feed length of the tape fed by the tape feed motor and the thickness of the processing tape. 비용을 억제함과 함께 대상 처리의 처리간에 있어서의 추가 처리를 필요로 하지 않고, 처리 테이프에 걸리는 장력이 일정하게 되도록 한다. 처리 테이프를 처리 대상물에 맞닿게 하고, 해당 처리 테이프와 처리 대상물의 상대적 운동에 의해 해당 처리 대상물을 처리하는 기판 처리 장치이며, 테이프 공급 릴과, 테이프 회수 릴과, 테이프 회수 릴에 토크를 부여하는 회수용 모터와, 처리 테이프를 송출하는 테이프 이송 모터와, 테이프 이송 모터를 제어하는 제어부를 갖고, 제어부는, 테이프 이송 모터에 의해 송출된 테이프 이송 길이와, 당해 처리 테이프의 두께를 사용하여, 당해 처리 테이프에 걸리는 장력이 일정하게 되도록, 테이프 회수 릴에 의해 권취된 처리 테이프의 권체의 외경의 변화에 맞추어 회수용 모터의 토크를 제어한다.
