The present invention relates to a composition for increasing muscles or preventing muscle loss containing gynostemma pentaphyllum leaves extracts as active ingredients. In addition, the composition for increasing muscles or preventing muscle loss contains gynostemma pentaphyllum leaves extracts as active ingredients which has the increased content of low molecule active saponin including ginsenoside Rg3, gypenoside L, gypenoside LI and the like and the reduced content of benzopyrene. The composition containing a gynostemma pentaphyllum leaves extract of the present invention has various effects of inducing muscle cell differentiation, increasing muscle or preventing muscle loss, preventing or treating muscle-related diseases including muscle loss, and improving exercising ability. Moreover, the gynostemma pentaphyllum leaves extract manufactured by the present invention has high content of a low molecule active saponin including ginsenoside Rg3, gypenoside L, gypenoside LI and the like while having low content of benzopyrene, thereby improving effects of increasing muscle or preventing muscle loss or improving exercising ability. 본 발명은 돌외잎 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 근육 증대용 또는 근육 손실 저해용 조성물에 관한 것이다. 또한, 본 발명은 진세노사이드 Rg3, 지페노사이드 L, 지페노사이드 LI 등의 저분자 유효 사포닌의 함량은 증대되면서도 벤조피렌의 함량은 저감된 돌외잎 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 근육 증대용 또는 근육 손실 저해용 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명의 돌외잎 추출물을 포함하는 조성물은 근육세포 분화 유도 효과, 근육 증대 또는 근육 손실 저해 효과, 근손실 등의 근육 질환의 예방 또는 치료 효과, 및 운동능력 향상 효과가 있다. 또한, 본 발명에 따라 제조되는 돌외잎 추출물은 진세노사이드 Rg3, 지페노사이드 L, 지페노사이드 LI 등의 저분자 유효 사포닌의 함량은 높으면서도 벤조피렌의 함량이 낮은 특징을 가지므로, 근육 증대 또는 근육 손실 저해 효과, 또는 운동능력 향상 효과가 더욱 증진된다.
