The present invention relates to a pre-5G or 5G communication system for supporting a data transmission rate higher than that of a 4G communication system such as an LTE communication system. According to various embodiments of the present invention, an antenna unit includes: a dielectric substrate; a dielectric cover on the dielectric substrate; and a slot antenna array which is formed in a metal layer aligned in or on the top of the dielectric substrate. The slot antenna array can have slot elements of two or more groups, including first and second groups, to generate progressing waves propagating from the dielectric cover on the dielectric substrate. Each of the slot elements in the second group is shorter in length than the slot elements in the first group. The slots of the first and second groups can be arranged on opposite sides to form pairs of slot elements. The distance between the slot element of the first group and the slot element of the second group in one pair can be selected to provide a phase shift between the 90-degree propagating waves thereof. The slot element pairs can be aligned out of a straight line by making the even-numbered pairs of the slot elements be offset with respect to the odd-numbered pairs of the slot elements. 본 개시는 LTE와 같은 4G 통신 시스템 이후 보다 높은 데이터 전송률을 지원하기 위한 5G 또는 pre-5G 통신 시스템에 관련된 것이다. 본 개시의 다양한 실시 예에서는 하는 장치 및 방법을 제안한다. 이를 위해, 안테나 유닛은 유전체 기판, 유전체 기판 상의 유전체 커버, 유전체 기판 위나 안에 정렬되는 금속 계층 안에 형성되는 슬롯 안테나 어레이를 포함할 수 있다. 상기 슬롯 안테나 어레이는 유전체 기판과 유전체 커버에서 전파되는 진행파를 생성하도록 구성되며, 적어도 두 그룹들 (제1 및 제2그룹)의 슬롯 요소들을 가질 수 있다. 제2그룹의 슬롯 요소들 각각은 제1그룹의 슬롯 요소보다 길이가 짧고, 제1 및 제2그룹의 슬롯들은 슬롯 요소들의 쌍들을 형성하도록 서로 반대로 배치될 수 있다. 하나의 쌍 안에서 제1그룹의 슬롯 요소로부터 제2그룹의 슬롯 요소까지의 거리는 그들의 90도 방사파들 간 위상 천이를 제공하도록 선택될 수 있다. 상기 슬롯 요소들의 쌍들은 슬롯 요소들의 짝수 쌍들이 슬롯 요소들의 홀수 쌍들에 대해 오프셋되는 방식으로 일직선에서 벗어나 정렬될 수 있다.
