A washing machine and a control method are disclosed. The washing machine according to the present invention comprises: a drum for accommodating laundry; a drying unit for adjusting the temperature of air in the drum to dry the laundry; a filter unit for filtering the lint generated in the laundry; a washing unit for washing the filter unit; and a control unit for controlling the washing unit to periodically clean the filter unit while the drum rotates. Accordingly, the washing machine can reduce the amount of lint generated in the laundry during the drying process. Further, in the washing machine according to the present invention, the filter for filtering the lint generated in the laundry during the drying process is periodically cleaned to smoothly circulate air in the drum, thereby enhancing the drying efficiency. 세탁기 및 그 제어 방법이 개시된다. 본 발명에 따른 세탁기는 세탁물을 수용하는 드럼, 세탁물이 건조되도록 드럼 내 공기 온도를 조절하는 건조부, 세탁물에서 발생한 린트(lint)를 걸러내기 위한 필터부, 필터부를 세척하기 위한 세척부 및 드럼이 회전하는 동안 주기적으로 상기 필터부를 세척하도록 세척부를 제어하는 제어부를 포함한다. 이에 따라, 세탁기는 건조 행정 시, 세탁물에서 발생되는 린트량을 감소시킬 수 있다. 나아가, 본 발명에 따른 세탁기는 건조 행정 시, 세탁물에서 발생된 린트를 걸러내는 필터를 주기적으로 세척하여 드럼 내부 공기를 원활히 순환시킴으로써, 건조 효율을 높일 수 있다.
