The present invention relates to a compression train for a natural gas liquefaction process. The compression train includes a driving machine and only one centrifugal compressor rotated and driven by the driving machine. The compressor is configured to compress a refrigerant gas with a molecular weight of less than 30 g/mol from suction pressure to discharge pressure. A ratio between the discharge pressure and the suction pressure is greater than 10, preferably greater than 12, and more preferably greater than 15. An LNG plant includes one or more compression trains according to the present invention.
