The present invention relates to an apparatus to manage a battery pack with an improved structure to, in case of an over voltage of the battery pack, rapidly and precisely block a charging or discharging current of the battery pack even if a control unit such as an MCU performs a malfunction. According to the present invention, the apparatus to manage a battery pack is an apparatus to manage a battery pack, which comprises: a cell assembly including one or more secondary batteries; and a charging/discharging path where a current flows to charge or discharge the secondary batteries in the cell assembly. The apparatus comprises: an FET placed on the charging/discharging path of the battery pack to selectively open or close the charging/discharging path; a control unit which transmits a turn-on signal to a gate terminal of the FET to turn on the FET and allows a current to flow in the charging/discharging path; a comparison unit whose first input end is connected to the cell assembly and whose second input end is connected to a reference power supply which supplies a reference voltage; a first resistance connected to an output end of the comparison unit; and a PTC device whose one end is connected to the gate terminal of the FET and whose other end is connected to the control unit to change the resistance value in accordance with heat radiation of the first resistance. 본 발명은 배터리 팩의 과전압 상황에서, MCU와 같은 제어 유닛이 오작동되더라도, MCU의 오작동과 관계 없이, 배터리 팩의 충방전 전류가 신속하고 정확하게 차단될 수 있도록 구조가 개선된 배터리 팩 관리 장치를 개시한다. 본 발명에 따른 배터리 팩 관리 장치는, 하나 이상의 이차 전지를 포함하는 셀 어셈블리와 상기 셀 어셈블리의 이차 전지를 충방전하기 위한 전류가 흐르는 충방전 경로를 구비하는 배터리 팩을 관리하는 장치로서, 상기 배터리 팩의 충방전 경로 상에 구비되어 상기 충방전 경로를 선택적으로 개폐하는 FET; 상기 FET의 게이트 단자로 턴온 신호를 전송하여 상기 FET를 턴온시킴으로써, 상기 충방전 경로에 전류가 흐를 수 있도록 하는 제어 유닛; 제1 입력단이 상기 셀 어셈블리에 연결되고, 제2 입력단이 기준 전압을 공급하는 기준 전원에 연결된 비교기; 상기 비교기의 출력단에 연결된 제1 저항; 및 일단이 상기 FET의 게이트 단자에 연결되고 타단이 상기 제어 유닛에 연결되며, 상기 제1 저항의 발열에 의해 저항값이 변경되는 PTC 소자를 포함한다.
