Disclosed is a method of enhancing a low luminance image. According to the present invention, provided is the method comprising: receiving an image comprising a plurality of unit image blocks, and generating a luminance component signal and a chroma component signal from the image; separating the luminance component signal into a first low frequency coefficient and a first high frequency coefficient by converting the luminance component signal; generating a second low frequency coefficient by enhancing contract of the first low frequency coefficient of the luminance component signal; calculating contrast of the first high frequency coefficient by using the second low frequency coefficient and first high frequency coefficient of the luminance component signal; generating a second high frequency coefficient and contrast of the second high frequency coefficient by applying an entropy increase to the contrast of the first high frequency coefficient; and enhancing contrast of the chroma component signal by using a contrast improvement factor of the luminance component signal. 저조도 영상 개선 방법이 제공된다. 저조도 영상 개선 방법은, 복수의 단위 영상 블록을 포함하는 영상을 제공받아, 상기 영상으로부터 휘도 성분 신호와 색채 성분 신호를 생성하고, 상기 휘도 성분 신호를 변환하여 상기 휘도 성분 신호의 제1 저주파 계수와 제1 고주파 계수로 분리하고, 상기 휘도 성분 신호의 제1 저주파 계수의 대비도를 개선하여 제2 저주파 계수를 생성하고, 상기 휘도 성분 신호의 제2 저주파 계수와, 상기 제1 고주파 계수를 이용하여 제1 고주파 계수의 대비도를 계산하고, 상기 제1 고주파 계수의 대비도에 엔트로피 증대를 적용하여 제2 고주파 계수 및 상기 제2 고주파 계수의 대비도를 생성하고, 상기 휘도 성분 신호의 대비도 개선 팩터를 이용하여 상기 색채 성분 신호의 대비도를 개선하는 것을 포함한다.
