Provided are a method and apparatus for a television (TV) device which participates in an internet of things (IoT) network. An IoT network control service is communicated to transmit and receive a message for controlling a state of the TV device. The state of the TV device is monitored based on an attribute table. The state of the TV device functions as a trigger for one or more routines. A preset routine is determined based on an action table.
