Disclosed are a method and an apparatus which detect a moving entity using differences in images. According to an aspect of the current embodiment, provided is an apparatus for detecting an entity characterized by comprising: a difference calculating unit which calculates a plurality of difference images representing differences among a plurality of image frames received at predetermined intervals; a region selecting unit which divides each of the difference images into a plurality of regions, thereby determines occupying ratios of effective pixels present in each region of each difference image, and selects one or more candidate regions by using the differences between the occupying ratios of the effective pixels; and an entity detecting unit which determines densities of the effective pixels present in the one or more candidate regions selected by the region selecting unit with regard to each difference image and thereby detects an entity in the image frame. 영상의 차이를 이용하여 이동 개체를 검출하는 방법 및 장치를 개시한다. 본 실시예의 일 측면에 의하면, 기 설정된 간격을 두고 수신된 복수의 영상 프레임들 상호 간의 차이를 나타내는 복수의 차이 영상을 산출하는 차이 산출부와 상기 복수의 차이 영상 각각을 복수의 영역으로 분할하여 각각의 차이 영상의 각각의 영역 내에 존재하는 유효픽셀의 점유율을 파악하고, 유효픽셀의 점유율 간의 차이를 이용하여 하나 이상의 후보 영역을 선정하는 영역 선정부 및 상기 각각의 차이 영상에 대하여 상기 영역 선정부가 선정한 하나 이상의 후보 영역 내에 존재하는 유효픽셀의 밀도(Density)를 파악하여 상기 영상 프레임 내의 개체를 검출하는 개체 검출부를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 개체 검출장치를 제공한다.
