The present invention relates to a device and a method thereof to detect the malfunction of an inverter by estimating a transistor on-resistance value, capable of detecting the malfunction of an inverter by estimating a resistance value when a transistor, which is a switching element used for the inverter, is switched on. The present invention comprises: a rectifying part converting input three-phase AC power into input DC power by using a rectifying circuit; a smoothing part accessing the rectifying circuit of the rectifying part to remove a ripple included in a rectified direct current; an inverter part converting a DC voltage, outputted from the smoothing part, into a three-phase AC voltage having a random frequency and a voltage; a sensor part including a sensor, comprising at least one among a voltage sensor and a current sensor and installed in the inverter part, to detect at least one among a phase voltage and a phase current, inputted into a motor; and a control part calculating an on-resistance value of the transistor by using at least one among the current and voltage, detected by the sensor part, and then determining whether the transistor malfunctions or not. 본 발명은 인버터에서 사용되는 스위칭소자인 트랜지스터가 스위칭 온(On) 될 때의 저항값을 추정하여 인버터의 고장을 검출하는 트랜지스터 온 저항값 추정에 의한 인버터의 고장검출장치 및 그 방법에 관한 것으로, 입력되는 3상 교류전원을 정류회로를 이용하여 입력직류전원으로 변환하는 정류부와, 상기 정류부의 정류회로에 접속하여 정류된 직류 중에 포함된 리플을 제거하는 평활부와, 상기 평활부에서 출력되는 직류전압을 다시 임의의 주파수와 전압을 갖는 3상 교류전압으로 변환하는 인버터부와, 전류 센서와 전압 센서 중 어느 하나 이상으로 이루어진 센서가 상기 인버터부에 장착되어 모터로 입력되는 상전류와 상전압 중 어느 하나 이상을 검출하는 센서부 및 상기 센서부에서 검출된 전류와 전압 중 어느 하나 이상의 수치를 이용하여 스위칭소자인 트랜지스터의 온(On) 저항값을 구하고 그 고장 여부를 판단하는 제어부를 포함하는 트랜지스터 온 저항값 추정에 의한 인버터의 고장검출장치 및 그 방법을 제공한다.
