Summary:According to a liquid crystal display and a manufacturing method thereof, a common electrode is formed under a gate insulating layer. A pixel electrode is formed directly on the gate insulating layer. A protection layer is formed in a position where the pixel electrode is not overlapped. Thereby, the common electrode and the pixel electrode can be formed on a substrate without increasing the number of masks. So, an increase in manufacturing costs can be prevented. 본 발명의 실시예에 따른 액정 표시 장치 및 그 제조 방법에 따르면, 게이트 절연막 아래에 공통 전극을 형성하고, 게이트 절연막 바로 위에 화소 전극을 형성하고, 화소 전극과 중첩하지 않는 위치에 보호막을 형성함으로써, 마스크 수를 증가시키지 않으면서도 하나의 기판 위에 공통 전극 및 화소 전극을 형성할 수 있다.
