The present invention relates to a display device and an operation method thereof, and the objective is to smoothen the edge of an image by alleviating the step phenomenon due to the lower vertical resolution in the case of gate doubling driving. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the display device includes: a plurality of gate lines; a plurality of data lines; a plurality of pixels each of which includes a switching element connected to the gate lines and the data lines; a data operation unit; a gate operation unit; and a signal control unit which controls the data operation unit and the gate operation unit. The operation method for the display device includes: a step where the signal control unit compresses the input image data of a frame with the vertical resolution reduced by 1/k (k is a natural number) or receives and processes input image data which is compressed with the vertical resolution reduced by 1/k and by doing so generates output image data; a step where the data operation unit generates a data voltage based on the output image data and applies the voltage to the data lines; a step where the gate operation unit applies a gate-on voltage pulse to k number of neighboring gate lines corresponding to each image data of the output image data. Output image data corresponding to part of pixel lines of the output image data in a first frame is moved to the left or right as much as a pixel and outputted to the data operation unit. 본 발명은 표시 장치 및 그 구동 방법에 관한 것이다. 본 발명의 한 실시예에 따른 표시 장치의 구동 방법은 복수의 게이트선, 복수의 데이터선, 상기 게이트선 및 상기 데이터선에 연결되어 있는 스위칭 소자를 포함하는 복수의 화소, 데이터 구동부, 게이트 구동부, 그리고 상기 데이터 구동부 및 상기 게이트 구동부를 제어하는 신호 제어부를 포함하는 표시 장치에서, 상기 신호 제어부가 한 프레임의 입력 영상 데이터의 수직 해상도를 1/k(k은 자연수)로 압축하거나 수직 해상도가 1/k로 압축된 입력 영상 데이터를 입력받고 처리하여 출력 영상 데이터를 생성하는 단계, 상기 데이터 구동부가 상기 출력 영상 데이터를 바탕으로 데이터 전압을 생성하여 상기 데이터선에 인가하는 단계, 그리고 상기 게이트 구동부가 상기 출력 영상 데이터의 각 영상 데이터에 대응하여 k개의 이웃한 게이트선에 게이트 온 전압 펄스를 인가하는 단계를 포함하고, 제1 프레임에서 상기 출력 영상 데이터 중 일부 화소행에 대응하는 출력 영상 데이터를 좌(left) 또는 우(right)로 적어도 하나의 화소만큼 이동시켜 상기 데이터 구동부로 출력한다.
