Summary:The present invention relates to a control method for an air conditioner, which prevents a refrigerant from being piled up in an outdoor unit which is not operated during a cooling mode of a multi type air conditioner so that the multi type air conditioner, wherein the multiple outdoor units and indoor units are combined, can maintain stable cooling performance. According to the embodiment of the present invention, the air conditioner forms a cooling cycle capable of cooling and heating operations as the outdoor units and the indoor units are connected to each other by a refrigerant pipe. The control method for an air conditioner includes: a step of starting driving of the indoor units in a cooling operation mode; a step of confirming that the outdoor unit which is not in operation exists among the outdoor units when a set time has passed after the indoor unit starts the operation; a step of determining whether a refrigerant amount on the cooling cycle in operation is insufficient as an indoor expansion valve of an indoor unit in operation is opened more than a set opening; and a step of driving the outdoor unit which is not in operation. 본 발명의 실시예에 의한 공기 조화기의 제어 방법은, 다수의 실외기와 다수의 실내기가 냉매 배관에 의해 서로 연결되어 냉방 및 난방 운전이 가능한 냉동 사이클을 형성하는 공기 조화기의 제어 방법에 있어서, 복수의 상기 실내기가 냉방 운전상태로 운전 시작되는 단계; 상시 실내기의 운전 시작 후 설정시간이 경과되고, 상기 다수의 실외기 중 비운전 상태의 실외기가 존재하는 것을 확인하는 단계; 운전중인 실내기의 실내 팽창밸브의 개도가 설정 개도보다 더 개방되어 운전되고 있는 냉동 사이클 상의 냉매량이 부족함을 판단하는 단계; 비운전 상태의 실외기가 구동되는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
