The present invention relates to an apparatus for protecting the over temperature of a converter. The apparatus for protecting the over temperature of a converter according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a battery; the converter receiving an input voltage from the battery and converting the input voltage into an output voltage; a sensor sensing the input voltage and the temperature of each element of the converter; a control unit generating a maximum current limiting value by each voltage in accordance with the input voltage, generating a current limiting rate by each element temperature for the element of the converter, and generating a final current command value representing the final limiting current using the maximum current limiting value by each voltage and the current limiting rate by each element temperature; and an inverter generating the corresponding output current in accordance with the final current command value. 본 발명의 일실시예에 따른 컨버터의 과온 보호 장치는, 배터리; 상기 배터리로부터의 입력 전압을 공급받아 출력 전압으로 변환하는 컨버터; 상기 입력 전압을 센싱하고 상기 컨버터의 각 소자에 대한 온도를 센싱하는 센서; 상기 입력 전압에 따른 전압별 최대 전류 제한값을 생성하고, 상기 컨버터의 각 소자에 대한 소자 온도별 전류 제한율을 생성하고, 상기 전압별 최대 전류 제한값 및 소자 온도별 전류 제한율을 이용하여 최종 제한 전류를 나타내는 최종 전류 지령값을 생성하는 제어부; 및 상기 최종 전류 지령값에 따라 해당 출력 전류를 생성하는 인버터;를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 할 수 있다.
