The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for providing a lettering service which displays a nickname or a name of a caller when originating a call. The apparatus for providing a lettering service comprises: a service subscription and registration unit for receiving a subscription to the lettering service from an originating terminal through an application, and in response to the subscription, registering lettering information with identification information of the originating terminal in real time, or matching the lettering information with pre-stored lettering information and registering the same; a lettering check unit for checking and extracting the lettering information of the original terminal which has completed the registration through the service subscription and registration unit; and a transmission control unit for transmitting, to a phone number of a receiving terminal, the lettering information extracted from the lettering check unit when the transmission of a call is requested from the originating terminal. 본 발명은 전화 발신 시 발신자의 애칭이나 이름을 표시하는 레터링 서비스 제공 장치 및 방법에 관한 것으로, 레터링 서비스 제공 장치는 애플리케이션을 통해 발신단말로부터 레터링 서비스를 신청받고 이에 응답하여 발신단말의 식별정보와 함께 레터링 정보를 실시간 등록하거나 또는 미리 저장된 레터링 정보와 매칭하여 등록하는 서비스 신청 및 등록부, 서비스 신청 및 등록부를 통해 등록 완료된 발신단말의 레터링 정보를 조회하여 추출하는 레터링 조회부, 및 발신단말로부터 전화 발신이 요청되면 레터링 조회부를 통해 추출한 레터링 정보를 착신단말의 전화번호로 전송하는 전송 제어부를 포함할 수 있다.
