Summary: | The present invention provides a resin composition useful as a zero VOC coating composition, having opacifying pigment volume concentration (OPVC%) of 2 to 25, wherein the resin composition comprises: (i) an opacifier composition of a particle type which is selected from at least partially polymer encapsulated opacifying pigment, a polymer opacifying pigment composite, and a mixture thereof, wherein the opacifying pigment is encapsulated and/or in at least one soft polymer having a measured glass transition temperature (measurement tg) of less than or equal to 5 oc and a composite with the same; and (ii) a hard binder polymer having tg of at least 30 oc and a weight average particle size of less than or equal to 120 nm. The ratio of the weight average particle size of the hard binder to the weight average particle size of the opacifier composition is at least 2:1 to 12:1, and the volume ratio of to the soft polymer solid to the opacifying pigment in the opacifier composition is 2:5 to 1:12.
