A method of forming a bonded abrasive body comprises: forming a mixture including a bond material and abrasive particles comprising microcrystalline alumina; shaping the mixture to form a green body; and sintering the green body to form a bonded abrasive body including a bond material comprising a single phase vitreous bond material and wherein the bond material is formed from at least 45 wt% silicon oxide (SiO2) and not greater than 55 wt% silicon oxide (SiO2) and at least 0.5 wt % and not greater than 2.2 wt% alkali earth compounds (RO), for the total weight of the bond material. In an embodiment, the bonded abrasive body comprises a strength ratio (MOR/MOE) of at least about 0.80. |
