An embodiment of the present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for diagnosing a trouble of a machine tool using power consumption. The apparatus for diagnosing a trouble of a machine tool using power consumption comprises: a data storing unit storing a normal consumed power pattern in a normal operation section of a machine tool and an abnormal consumed power pattern in an abnormal operation section; an operation testing unit setting the machine tool according to a machine tool program for an operation test and operating the set machine tool with respect to a transfer shaft or a rotating shaft; a consumed power measuring unit measuring consumed power of the machine tool operated by the operation testing unit depending on a change in measurement time; a consumed power analyzing unit which determines a normal operation or an abnormal operation by comparing the measured consumed power of the machine tool with the stored normal consumed power pattern and confirming whether the measured consumed power of the machine tool corresponds to the abnormal power, and determines whether the power level of the machine tool is abnormally operated or not with respect to the malfunction line at the time of the abnormal operation; and an output unit outputting the measured consumed power and an abnormal diagnosis result of the determined normal operation or abnormal operation. 본 명세서의 일부의 실시 예는 소비전력을 이용한 공작기계의 고장 진단 장치 및 그 방법에 관한 것으로, 공작기계의 정상 동작 구간에서 정상 소비전력 패턴 및 이상 동작 구간에서 이상 소비전력 패턴을 저장하는 데이터 저장부; 구동 시험용 공작기계 프로그램에 따라 공작기계를 설정하고 상기 설정된 공작기계를 이송축 또는 회전축에 대해 구동시키는 구동 시험부; 상기 구동 시험부에 의해 구동되는 공작기계의 소비전력을 측정 시간의 변화 추이에 따라 측정하는 소비전력 측정부; 상기 측정된 공작기계의 소비전력과 상기 저장된 정상 소비전력 패턴을 비교하거나 상기 측정된 공작기계의 소비전력이 이상 파형에 해당되는지를 확인하여 정상 동작 또는 이상 동작을 판단하고, 이상 동작으로 판단되는 경우 상기 공작기계의 전력 계층도의 이상 동작 여부를 고장계통별로 판단하는 소비전력 분석부; 및 상기 측정된 소비전력 및 상기 판단된 정상 동작 또는 이상 동작에 대한 고장 진단 결과를 출력하는 출력부를 포함한다.
